Common Questions
Find clear answers to questions about our in-home music lessons, scheduling, materials, and how to get started.
Lessons and learning
What ages does Casa Musica teach?
We teach students of all ages, though most of our students are school-aged children. Lessons are adapted to suit each student's specific stage of development and goals.
Do students need prior experience?
Not at all. We love working with absolute beginners and helping them discover the joy of music from their very first lesson.
How long are lessons?
We offer 30-minute and 60-minute lesson options. 30 minutes is usually ideal for younger beginners, while 60 minutes suits older or more advanced students.
Can students work towards AMEB or HSC Music?
Yes, we support students through the AMEB examination process and help older students prepare for HSC Music performance and theory requirements.
Do students have to do exams?
Exams are entirely optional. We focus on a learning path that best suits each student's interests and goals, whether that involves formal examinations or learning for pure enjoyment.
Scheduling and cancellations
How are lessons scheduled?
Lessons are scheduled as a weekly recurring timeslot that is convenient for your family's routine.
What happens if we need to reschedule?
If you need to reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours' notice, and we will do our best to find an alternative time, subject to availability.
What is the cancellation policy?
Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are charged at the full rate, as our tutors have reserved that time for you. For notice over 24 hours, we offer a make-up lesson.
What happens if a student arrives late?
If a student starts a lesson late, the lesson must still end at the scheduled time to ensure the tutor remains on schedule for the next family.
Materials and exams
What materials do students need?
Students will need their own instrument, a music notebook, and any specific learning resources recommended by their tutor.
Do I need an instrument at home?
Yes. Regular practice between lessons is essential for progress, so students will need access to their instrument at home.
How are books and learning resources handled?
Your tutor will advise on the best books and resources for your child's stage. These are usually purchased by the parents as recommended.
How do AMEB exams work?
If choosing the exam path, your tutor will guide you through the preparation and enrolment. Exams provide a structured benchmark for musical progress.
